Selecting the correct air conditioning system for your home is a big decision.

It’s an important investment today. It will play a key role in your home energy expenses for years to come.

When the summer heat is at its worst, you will want your family to have the best, most reliable cooling comfort possible.

Here are a few things to consider.

1. What do good central air units have in common?
The best equipment are efficient, operating on minimal electricity to hold utility bills down. They provide steady, dependable performance year after year. When properly maintained a good systems is quiet, long-lasting and low in service needs.

2. How can I be sure my Unit is the right size?
Obviously, an air conditioner that’s too small won’t keep your home sufficiently cool. What many do not realize is that an over-sized system will cycle (turn on and off) more than necessary, wasting expensive energy and possibly putting undue strain on the compressor.

At Aloha Air Conditioning we will determine. The optimum size for your home by making a careful study of your cooling requirements.

  • Window dimensions and exposure.
  • Floor space.
  • Insulation.
  • local climate.
  • Heat-generating appliances.
  • The direction your home faces.
  • Even the amount of your home’s exterior shaded by trees.

We will specify the cooling capacity of the system in either Btu/h (British thermal units of heat removed per hour) or refrigeration tons (one ton being equal to 12,000 Btu/h).

We offer free air conditioning replacement estimates. Request one today from our friendly and honest sales team for your home or office system.

Blue-Tube UV is the simple and complete choice in UV light for all residential applications.

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

A lot of people ask, “Does the UV light produce smells”. Well the answer is yes, some brands do for a short period of time after being newly installed. However, the brand we offer does not produce any noticeable smell after install.

Fresh-Aire Blue-Tube UV

The Original Low-Voltage UV Light Kit

Blue-Tube UV is the simple and complete choice in UV light for all residential applications. Everything you need is in the tube! Just make the electrical connections and install the UV light where needed.

 High and Low Voltage Options

Blue-Tube UV is now you available with a high or low-voltage power supply. Low-Voltage models feature exclusive Extended Range (ER) technology which eliminates low voltage problems associated with variable speed air handlers and fluctuating or over voltage issues.

 Features

• Innovative magnetic mounting bracket makes installation safe & easy

• Lifetime extended range power supply mounts inside control panel

• Weather resistant remote mountable UV lamps

• 4 lamp models to choose from

Benefits

• Provides a healthier living environment for your family

• Kills mold, bacteria, and viruses where they lurk

• Reduces system maintenance

• Reduces household odors

Blue-Tube UV should be installed by an HVAC professional.

Mold and other microbes can thrive in the moist interior of the air handler

Moldy cooling coils waste enegy and spread germs through the air system

With a UV light installed cleaned coils stay clean

Why does UV light kill germs?

UV-C light (the frequency used in germicidal UV lights) kills germs by disrupting their DNA which prevents them from reproducing, effectively killing them. In nature this frequency of light is filtered out by the Earth’s atmosphere so microbes have no defense against it.

 1. Is UV light safe for children and pets?

When a UV light system is installed in a central air system the germ killing effect takes place inside the air system and is limited to that area. There is no danger to any living thing in the home except microbes that are carried by the air into the central air system.

 2. Is it OK to look at the UV light?

Never look at the UV light when it is lit. UV-C light can give your eyes painful “sunburn”. Unplug or disconnect the unit to work on it.

 3. Our air system isn’t running so why is the UV light still on?

Mold and other biological contaminants will grow inside the air handler whether or not it’s running. Constant exposure to UV-C light keeps the air system clean.

 4. Can I upgrade my Blue-Tube UV with a different lamp?

Yes! All Blue-Tube and Fresh-Aire UV AHU lamps are interchangeable. When it’s time to replace your UV lamp you have 4 options to select from: 1 Year, 2 Year, 1 Year Odor Control, and 2 Year Odor Control.

 5. My ‘1 Year’ UV light still glows after 2 years –

Do I need to replace it?

Yes, over time the UV effectiveness of the lamps decreases even though the lamp may still be putting out visible light. ‘1 Year’ and ‘2 Year’ lamp designations refer to effective UV output not when the lamp will burn out.

 6. Will a UV light system kill mold in the walls?

No. UV-C germicidal irradiation can only kill microbes on surfaces that the light shines on directly (surface kills) or that pass by in the air stream (airborne kill).

The Fresh-Aire UV Light reduces odors, toxic chemical vapors, germs and mold in your home.

Friday, November 12th, 2010

A lot of people ask, “Does the UV light produce smells”. Well the answer is yes, some brands do for a short period of time after being newly installed. However, the brand we offer does not produce any noticeable smell after install.

The FRESH-AIRE UV light is installed in the duct-work of your central air system and is designed to help reduce odors, toxic chemical vapors, germs and mold in your home.

Detox the air in your home and protect you and your loved ones from:

  • Alternaria
  • Dust Mites
  • Aspergillus
  • E Coli
  • Pollen
  • Mold

How does the UV Light work?

By removing airborne contaminants as the air is circulated by the central HVAC system. Using a proprietary absorption media to capture VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) then reduces the captured constituents through an innovative photo-cytaltic oxidation process (PCO) which breaks them down into elemental carbon dioxide and water vapor.

Toxic airborne compounds are captured in the photo-catalytic carbon matrix

As odors and chemical contaminants circulate through your air handling system, the ultraviolet light unit utilizes a highly absorptive carbon media which captures these contaminants, removing them from the air stream, much like a sponge absorbs water.

The toxic molecules are broken down into simple water vapor and CO2

During the off cycles of the air handler the UV Light self-regenerating photo-catalytic oxidation process breaks down the captured contaminants and frees up the carbon cell to be able to capture additional airborne VOC’s and odors.

UV Light limits the spead of bio-contaminants like mold and viruses

In addition to the units system’s ability to absorb airborne VOCs, the UV light helps to maintain the cleanliness of your central ac system by shining on the duct-work, cooling coils, heat strips and blowers that are prone to biological growth that can contaminate and clog the system.

UV-C Light Kills Germs

For over a century scientists have known that certain frequencies of light have a devastating effect on microbial life. We now know that exposure to ultraviolet light in the range of 254 NM (UV-C band) disrupts the DNA of micro-organisms, thus preventing them from reproducing, thereby effectively killing them.

The Science of Clean Air

Over time mold can build up on cooling coils. this is a health risk that robs the air system of efficiency and requires cleaning with chemicals. The germicidal UV light inside kills mold and keeps the coil and air system interior clean.

Recent studies have shown that the level of invisible airborne organic chemical and odor contaminates in our indoor air is generally two to five times higher then the levels found outdoors. while some of these substances merely smell bad, others can be extremely harmful.

these contaminates, known as Volatile Organic Compounds are carbon-based chemicals that easily evaporate at room temperature. The unique technology inside the Fresh-Arie UV helps to eliminate VOCs, making your home a safer and more pleasant place to live.

Common Sources of VOCs Include:

  • Buildings materials
  • Carpets and adhesives
  • Upholstery fabrics
  • Vinyl floors
  • Composite wood products
  • Paints and varnishes
  • Sealing caulks and glues
  • Carpet cleaning solvent
  • Home and personal care products
  • Air cleaners that produce ozone
  • Cleaning and disinfecting chemicals
  • Cosmetics
  • Smoking and fireplaces
  • Fuel oil and gasoline
  • Moth balls
  • Vehicle exhaust from an attached garage

We look forward to discussing your home air quality with you.
